We’ll start with the good news: All players who returned from international duty tested negative for coronavirus. "They also all came back without any injuries and are all able to train," added Florian Kohfeldt on Good Friday. The Werder head coach did however have two injuries to report on ahead of Sunday’s encounter with VfB Stuttgart (kick-off 15:30): Nick Woltemade and Milos Veljkovic.

Green-White academy product Woltemade will be out of action for six to eight weeks. The midfielder suffered a partial tear to his LCL in a non-contact incident at training. "Nick overstretched his leg in a shooting motion and will have to take it easy for the next few weeks. Six to eight weeks is on the conservative side, but we don’t want to put him under any pressure," said Kohfeldt.

"Niclas Füllkrug benefited from the international break"

On Easter Sunday, the head coach is unlikely to be able to name Milos Veljkovic in the starting XI, or even the squad. "That’s probably not going to happen," Kohfeldt predicted. "We‘ve got some good alternatives for our back three in Christian Groß and Niklas Moisander. So it will be a real shame if Milos isn’t available, of course, but not drastic."

Josh Sargent is also unavailable due to a yellow-card suspension. "It’s certainly a big loss for us, fortunately not through injury though. These suspensions are standard at this stage of the season," said Kohfeldt, who did not reveal who would be replacing Sargent up front. "Niclas Füllkrug really benefited from the international break. He needs to play in order to get back to full competitive fitness, but he’s already at a good level. Davie Selke also trained well, Yuya Osako showed his quality with the Japan national team and has come back full of confidence." It remains to be seen who will start for Werder on Sunday.
